That's one hell of a "recovery" day. Its rather like a short yoga workout, and a nice leg workout. I'm looking forward to the P90X madness today.

Saturday 04-24-2010: Insanity Day 13 : BJJ, Pure Cardio, Cardio Abs, and P90X+ Intervals

Busy workout day today. BJJ class at 11am with Loro and Marcelino and then some cardio later in the day. I didnt feel like I got enough actual cardio time with pure cardio (only 15 minutes in my zone?!?!?!) so I threw in P90X+ Intervals as well.

You can see that the P90X+ intervals didnt challenge me nearly as much as they used to... good to mix it up tho.

I seem to be getting into the habit of doing the workouts twice, but in the spirit of intervals, I think this is a good thing. Also, my time spent "in the zone" is relatively low on a per workout basis.. probably because I work cardio so much.

I'm sure the twice a day thing will stop next week when my calf has healed enough to go back to jiu jitsu. P90x, BJJ and ONE insanity session ought to be enough, even for me.

Thursday 04-22-2010: Insanity Day 11 : Cardio Recovery P90X Chest, Shoulders and Triceps

I like the recovery day. Its got s distinctly yoga feel to it while still giving a good leg workout, plus its the perfect thing to pair with a P90X upper body workout.

Again, no Jiu Jitsu for me. It's just too tempting to go while my calf is still healing. I'll end up rolling and bad things will happen.

Insanity Day 4 : Cardio Recovery, P90X Chest Shoulders and Arms, and BJJ

Today's Madness
Cardio Recovery - I ended up doing this around 7am, and found it to be very yoga-like, but with some additional leg and butt-blasting work. I didn't track calories since I didnt really sweat or get my heart rate up.

P90X Chest Shoulders and Arms "Mini" - I essentially took about half of the exercises from CS+A while maintaining the order and the muscles being hit. It takes about 35 minutes.. gotta keep working the muscles!

That's a good workout. I like that they seem to jump right into it with 3 rotations with increasing intensity before the stretches, then two more full rotations of other cardio and strength training.

Okay, I though I was in pretty good cardio shape, and im not exactly disgusted with my performance, I kept up most of the time, or at least did all the drills, but WOW that was very challenging. I was at 145 bpm after the damn WARMUP!

Well I completed my fit test today, and I was pleased that I outperformed the dude in the video in a couple of places, but the woman in the video really sort of kicked my ass. Nice to have a yardstick.

It's Insanity.

After one full rotation of P90X and one full rotation of P90X+, I've decided to give Insanity a try, and I'm really excited. I started out P90X at 142 pounds, in really pretty good shape from occasional weights, and consistent Jiu Jitsu (4-6 times per week) but I wanted to get stronger.

Now... There's not a TON of difference really, but after P90X, I'm closer to 146-148 lbs on an average day (assuming I haven't gone overboard with sodium) which is a little too close to the cutoff for jiu jitsu tournaments for the featherweight division of 149.9 lbs, especially when you add in a 3-5 pound uniform!

Enter Insanity. My goal is to really ratchet up the cardio and see how things go after 60 days.

I begin on Monday. I'll post my pre insanity photos before I start and my results from my fit test.
